Banana & Brazil Superfood Smoothie

I haven't posted a drink recipe in a while so, here is a recipe for a superfood smoothie that we've been enjoying lately. It's a recent variation of our more regular hemp milk green smoothies incorporating some of my favourite superfoods ~ Maca, Reishi and Mesquite.

You can use whatever type of nut milk you like but I find the flavour of the brazils give this smoothie a fuller flavour.

Brazil Nuts are the richest natural source of selenium and a good source of vitamin E.  They also contain Palmitoleic acid and oleic acid which can help to lower 'bad cholesterol' levels and increase 'good cholesterol' levels.

INGREDIENTS

3c Brazil milk

2 Bananas

2t Maca

2t Mesquite

1/2t Reishi Powder

THE HOW TO...

Make your brazil milk ~ 1c brazil nuts : 4c water

Put all ingredients in blender with (strained) brazil milk and blend

If you have a sweet tooth, you may need to add a little extra sweetner of your choice.  The bananas add enough sweetness for me but are probably not enough for most people.

♥ CHIA ♥

Chia & Cocnut Fruit Pie
Even though Chia has been around for a while now, it's pretty new to our diet.  We had lots and lots of chia in the cupboard with many well meaning intentions to get to know all about her but, never quite got around to it.

It was only after Kate Magic's recent visit that I decided I really should get the Chia out and do something with it.

We were missing out on all of the benefits this lovely seed has to offer!

So, I opened the 1kg bag and guess how long it took us to consume the lot.....                     It was all gone within two weeks.
We found that

We LOVE Chia

So what did we do with all the Chia?

The recipe for this chia breakfast was in the  August Newsletter

We had a chia pudding everyday, sometimes milky and creamy and other times filled with fruit.  I liked to have mine mid-morning or for lunch, sometime after I'd finished my couple of litres of daily juice.  Pras enjoyed his for breakfast.

And Oh ~ what can I say?

  Chia crackers

I have to buy more chia soon so I can make more crackers.  I've never made such crackers before.

I'm hooked!

While I've always loved the idea of crackers I'd never loved a cracker before chia came along ♥

The reason I don't usually eat crackers it that they feel heavy in the body, I didn't find this with the chia crackers.  They were light and crunchy and I just couldn't leave them alone.   They disappeared super fast.

We had some Chia for dessert a couple of times too.
That makes it sound like we have meals doesn't it?  Which is slightly misleading.
In the Raw Faerie house there is more of a grazing theme to food, we eat whatever we want when we want it, including desserts.

Chia and coconut fruit pies were the dessert I chose to make with the last of our seeds and it was thoroughly enjoyed.

We found that the Chia was really easy to digest and filling too.  I also love how it just takes on the flavours of the other ingredients.  Eating Chia once a day made me feel great, I had more consistent energy levels throughout the day.

If you would like to know what the benefits of Chia seeds are... why they are good for you... and what their nutritional profile is ~ You can click through to Angela Stockes-Monarch's blog ~ Raw Reform for the details.  They are an amazing source of protein, nutrients and omegas ~ I'm not surprised I feel so great when I eat them daily.

Flapjacks Take Two!

I've received quite a lot of feed back from my flapjacks post a couple of weeks ago, as well as some recipe requests.  It seems that my gorgeous husband is the only (kind-of) raw person who misses flapjacks!

I'm pleased to say that since the first batch I've been playing in the kitchen again and this time we have apple and Sultana Flapjacks.

My taste tester loved them even more than the plainer first version.  Here they are!

I am not sharing the recipe yet but I will share it in the future.  Not sure if it will be on the blog or in my newsletter yet but, it will be shared soon ♥

Frozen Cheesecake anyone?

I have no idea what I should call this cake....

It is frozen, it can be served in slices or scooped like ice-cream and it has this gorgeous cheesecakey thing going on.

The two flavours are white chcolate and berry and they are absolutley divine when swirled together.  It can be made with or without agave but I prefer it without.

I ♥  this in the summer

I'm thinking about offering this at our potluck at the end of the month.  Maybe in some take away tubs :)  If this is of interest, let me know.  It's just an idea at the moment

How Do I Order a Raw Faerie Cake?

Ginger Crunch

Recently there have been quite a few requests for clarification about how to order a Raw Faerie Cake so, I thought it would be good to clarify this with a blog post.

What Cakes are available?
Raw Faerie Cakes are divided into two groups ~ cakes that need to be
collected or delivered and cakes that can be sent through the post.

We are always happy to receive special requests.  We receive frequent orders for birthday cakes and the occasional wedding cake too.  If you see something on the facebook page or blog that you don't see on the cake list, email us and ask about it.

6" Love Bomb Cake
From time to time a run of cake squares are offered through our Facebook page.  These small packs cannot be made to order on demand.   If you would like to buy some Raw Faerie cake by the slice then, keep watch on the newsletters for updates on which cafes and healthfood stores are stocking our treats.

Mini Blueberry Torte
If you would like to receive a list of cakes and treats that you can order directly, email rawfaeriecreations@gmail.com  We will also be posting a full list of cakes in the notes section of the Raw Faerie Facebook page shortly.

How Do I get my Cake?
There are a couple of options;
Chocolate Berry Bliss Cake
1. You can collect your cake from the Raw Faerie House in Lostwithiel
2. We can post your cake to you
3. If your cake is for a special occasion, we may be able to deliver it to you at additional cost
4. If Kylie makes Raw Faerie deliveries to a cafe in your local area, she is happy to bring your order to you on her next visit.

How Do I Place an Order?
Orders are placed by email and payment is by direct bank transfer.  We do not offer paypal because they take a percentage of your payment, by not offering Paypal we are avoiding charging you more for our products.  We request one weeks notice for cake orders.  If you find yourself needing a cake at late notice will will do our best to accomodate your order if we're available to do so.

♥ Raw Faerie News ♥

The first Raw Faerie Newsletter is being sent our to our recent customers and enquirers.  If you would like to receive the Raw Faerie News, we'd be happy to send it to you if you opt in.

Raw Faerie Cakes in Archie Browns ~ 4th August!

On Thursday morning, Raw Faerie Cakes will be delivered to Archie Browns in Truro for the first time.  There will be a Raw Chocolate Torte available from the cafe as well as a limited number of  Minty Madness and Love Bomb cake squares too.  Some of the cake squares will be making their way down to Archie's in Penzance and others to the Kneehigh Assylum so please do ask about them if you're out west.

Helen from Archie Brown's is being really supportive in enabling people across Cornwall to buy Raw Faerie Cake through Archies in Truro and Penzance. This is a bit of an experiment though; we're testing the water to measure demand.   If you would like to see Archie's stocking Raw Faerie cakes on a regular basis, make sure you visit this week to let them know that you're interested <3

Just to remind you all, Raw Faerie Cakes are raw, vegan and free from wheat and gluten. Ingredients are organic where possible and fresh ingredients are sourced from local organic farms when in season.  Many Raw Faerie Cakes contain superfoods.  They are made with home made raw flours, chocolates and sprouts.  The ingredients in each cake are unique and some nut-free and cacao free cake options are available.

If you would like the Raw Faerie to bring a cake to Truro especially for you, to coincide with deliveries to Archie Browns, send an email rawfaeriecreations@gmail.com .  The Raw Faerie is happy to create a new cake especially for you if you have special dietary requirments.

Raw Food Cakes without nuts ~ do they really taste that good?

Recently I made a Cake for a lovely lady who had numerous allergies, including all nuts as well as other ingredients too.  She was visiting Cornwall around the time of her birthday.
I'm always up for a challenge so, when she contacted me to ask if I could make something special for her birthday, I was keen to make something really nice for her :)  I remember what it used to be like in my non-raw days when I was vegan, wheat free, sugar free, processed food free etc etc... it was pretty much a nightmare trying to find anything decent to eat unless I made it myself.

My general attitude toward such things is that unless you're allergic to everything, then making something amazing should almost always be possible.
The cake we decided on for her was a slightly modified version of my nut-free cacao torte.
This is what she had to say about her cake:
Can I just say that the nut free cacao torte was the very best Birthday cake I have ever had.  I ate the last piece a week after it was made and it was definitely the best bit.  It is amazing how the flavour develops.  Thank you. x
I'm so very pleased that she enjoyed it!

Organic & Raw Coconut Butter for mothers and babies

As promised.... here is the article about the benefits that coconut oil can introduce to mother and baby

Virgin Coconut Oil Increases Beneficial Properties in Human Breast Milk
by: Cori Young

VIRGIN OCONUT OIL FOUND BENEFICIAL FOR LACTATING MOTHERS...
The unique composition of human breast milk fat includes the fatty acids, lauric acid and capric acid, which have potent antimicrobial properties. These fatty acids offer the nursing infant protection from viruses such as herpes and HIV, protozoa such as giardia lamblia, and bacteria such as chlamydia and heliocobater.

A study published in 1998 in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has shown that lactating mothers who eat coconut oil and other coconut products, have significantly increased levels of lauric acid and capric acid in their breast milk. Thus, the milk supply has increased amounts of the protective antimicrobials , which will give even greater protection to the nursing infant.
Pregnant females store fat to assure successful lactation. Any lauric acid and capric acid in the diet becomes part of the adipose stores. The milk fat of a lactating mother is made up of these stores as well as her current diet. If her diet doesn´ t contain lauric acid, then generally her milk fat will contain around 3 lauric acid and round 1 capric acid.

When a lactating woman adds foods rich in lauric acid to her diet, the amount of lauric acid available in her breastmilk increases substantially to levels three times the original level and nearly double the amount of capric acid. In countries where coconut oil is a diet staple, levels of lauric acid in the mother´ s milk can be as high as 21 and capric acid can be as high as 6 giving her infant even more protection against viruses, bacteria, and protozoa.

Coconut oil can be used instead of butter in cooking and baking. You can stir it into oatmeal or even use it as a spread. Also, this oil´ s antimicrobial properties are beneficial for the skin. Pregnant women in many cultures the world over rub cocnut oil on their expanding bellies to keep skin soft and prevent itching.

Virgin coconut oil can also be used to massage baby...

This article wasn't written from a raw food perspective, but it really does spell out what an amazing food coconut butter is and the great effects it can have when added to the diet during pregnancy and the postpartum.  If looking for ways to incorporate raw coconut butter into meals, it can be blended into smoothies, sauces, soups, or curries.  It's also a great ingredient to include in raw desserts and treats :)

I will follow up with a post about the benefits of eating dates during pregnancy and the postpartum really soon

Raw Food Potluck ~ August 27th in Lostwithiel

Our next Raw Food Potluck Picnic (lets cross our fingers for good weather!) is on September 27th.  It will be in Lostwithiel again and if the weather is cold or wet we'll bring it up to the house.  It will be from 12.30 to 14.30 and you are best to park in the free village car park.  We'll be in touch with more details closer to the time.  If you'd like to let us know that you're planing to come along, please get in touch and we'll invite you to the event via facebook.

The last potluck in Lostwithiel was in June and we had lots of new people come along, which was fantastic :)

It was the first Lostwithiel potluck to go ahead (the first time we tried we had to cancel due to snow) and the food that was shared was just gorgeous. We had a small Raw Faerie Cake Shop too, for those who wanted to take some Minty Madness or Love Bomb cake squares away with them.  For the August potluck I will be having the wee cake shop again but with some different cakes on offer this time.  I will also be ordering in some organic young coconuts, so if you're coming and you'd like me to get some coconuts in for you, get in touch via email or facebook.

Fermented Superfood Cheesecakes ~ Available for a limited time

Collection Only
Throughout the remainder of the summer I am offering one of my favourite cakes that I have not offered before.  I seldom make this cake because it requires a lot of planning and preparation.

It is a raw, vegan cacao and superfood cheesecake that is made with fermented nut cheese.  It is amazing because it has that gorgeous sweet and sourness that all cheesecakes should have.

They will be available until the end of August and a minimum of three weeks notice is required.

This cake is available as a deep 6" or shallow 8" and the cost is £28.00

Would you like to try Organic Young Baby Coconuts?

Just a quick post to let you all know that I am offering to order in organic young baby coconuts to coincide with our Raw Vegan Potlucks.

If you would like to order a coconut or two (or three or four :) ) then get in touch.  Coconuts will be £3.01 each and you will need to pay on ordering (I will provide you with my account details so that you can make a direct transfer).  The coconuts can be collected at the Pot Luck events, if you can't make it to the pot luck but you still want some coconuts, you are welcome to arrange collection another time (please keep in mind that the use by date is limited so the sooner you collect the fresher your coconut will be).

Please note: As things currently stand, I am not making a profit by co-ordinating the orders of these coconuts so I take no responsibility for how happy you are with your coconuts!  I thought that this would just be a great opportunity to make good quality organic young coconuts available to those who attend the raw food pot lucks, so it's all being arranged through good will  :)

Love to you all  ♥ ♥ ♥

Strawberry & Cilantro Smoothie

Calling this a smoothie might be a little generous as it's somewhere in-between a juice and smoothie.  We enjoyed this atthe Raw Food Pot Luck at the Raw Faerie house this past weekend and there were a few requests for the recipe.

It a gorgeous drink to have with ice in the summer.  I like it made with cornish strawberries because  they are the sweetest and they are local too of course.  I really love the sweetness of the strawberries with the cilantro.

This recipe will make just over a litre but you could easily halve the quantities.  It's best to make it just before you are going to drink it as if you allow it to sit too long before drinking, the cilantro can seperate out from the juice.  If it does seperate it is easy to stir the cilantro back through.

It's this easy;

Juice some organic apples to make one litre of juice (approximately 10 medium sized apples)
Pour the juice into the blender and add 12 medium size strawberries, 1/4c tighly packed cilantro.
Briefly blend or pulse.

I like this drink to have a little texture from the strawberries and cilantro but if you prefer a smoother drink you can blend the cilantro with the strawberries first and then add the aples juice and lime.

Blending fresh juice will cause it to oxidise faster so it's best to avoid blending the apple juice longer than is needed.

If your strawberries aren't very sweet then you may need to add something extra to sweeten, maybe a little agave, coconut palm sugar....

'Love Bomb' & 'Minty Madness' in the post this week!

Following on from my post last week, the first Raw Faerie Creations cakes are going out in the post in just a couple of days.

Due to demand I am offering both minty madness and the new Love Bomb cake too.

In addition to full size 6" cakes I am also sending out cake squares in packs of 4 and 8.  These are available for both collection and posting.

6" Love Bomb
Minty Madness has been enjoyed by both raw foodies, vegans and people who are new to raw cakes.  It was tried by many for the first time at the raw vegan pot luck hosted at the Raw Faerie House this weekend.  It is going to be loved by anyone who is fond of dark chocolate and mint, it is made with fresh greens, nuts, raw chocolate and there are sea greens in there too.

The ♥Love Bomb♥ cake is a little more gentle and ever so nice.  It is boosted with maca, mesquite and it has fresh organic berries and rose too.  If you have tried the Chocolate Berry Bliss Cake you will find this creation to be a little more subtle.

At the Pot Luck this weekend, I offered sllices of these two cakes in the Raw Faerie Shop.  They were really well received and have already heard back from some who wished they'd bought more when they had the chance :)

They received many complements including;

'this isn't just the best vegan cake, it's the best cake I've ever eaten'
'blew me away..... Amazing!!!'

Raw Vegan Potluck in Lostwithiel - June

Hello Everyone!

Just a quick post to let everyone know that we have a raw vegan potluck coming up in Lostwithiel next month, Saturday 18th June.  Hopefully we'll have some great weather and have a picnic in the park or by the river :)

There has already been quite a bit of interest which is fantastic!  If you're interested in coming along or want to know more, you can find details through the Raw Faerie Creations page on Facebook or via the My Raw Princess Party Facebook Group.

If you think you can come along, let us know.

Everyone is to bring something raw and vegan to share.  If the weather is fine bring a rug to sit on and a picnic plate and some cutlery.  If the weather isn't so good we'll bring it inside.

I'll be in touch with everyone closer to the time with location details.

I can arrange to have some Raw Faerie treats for sale or collection on the day, e.g. raw vegan cake for sale by the slice.  So, let me know if this is of interest and I 'll make sure I set aside some time to make something special.

hmmmm EMA promoting interests of those it is supposed to be regulating?

Now here is an interesting article!

European Parliament refuses to approve European Medicines Agency accounts

It came across it via Shazzie's blog this morning and really wanted to share it.  So glad I remembered to come back and look it up!

This is not only an interesting article but an important one.  In summary it states:

With this report, MEPs have stated in black-and-white terms that the EMA is acting to promote the interests of the very pharmaceutical interests it is meant to be regulating on behalf of EU citizens – misusing citizens’ money in the process! In other words, the EMA is as corrupt as they come, and its accounts are not worth the cost of the paper they are printed on. Read more here....

Just think about this.  Pharmaceuticals kill over a three quarters of a million people in the USA every year.  Yet they want to ban herbs???

Apple & Fennel Juice with just a little zing

I made this juice this morning, just threw in what I happened to have in the refrigerator and came up with this lovely mix.  I often juice all of these fruit and veg but not usually in quite this combination. I absolutely LOVE it!  So I decided to share.

The ingredients you will need are:

5 apples
1 fennel
2 celery sticks
just a little bit of carrot (1/4 or less!)
1/4 lime
chunk of ginger - to taste

Just put it all through your juicer.

I haven't suggest how much fresh ginger to add.  This is because I like a LOT of ginger and it's sometimes too much for others.  So start with a small chunk, taste and then add more if you want it.  x
